GARP Sessions, Turkey 2022
In Summer 2022, David Horvitz invited me to an artist residency in Turkey with his family. At first I thought he was inviting me as the babysitter, as he offered to pay for the cost of my meals - for as long as I wanted to stay. I couldn’t afford a ticket, until I was awarded a research grant and my advisor offered to cover the cost of my airfare to present my research in Istanbul, so the Center for Critical Internet Inquiries reimbursed me for the trip. And then I got a Summer Research Fellowship and finished my film. Here are the iPhone photos from GARP Residency in Babakale, Turkey. Maybe one day I will get around to uploading the professional photos I took. Some of them are featured in a Taschen book curated by Steffi Hessler, my favorite curator. The kids took care of themselves and didn’t need much babysitting. And the cost of my meals ended up being only less than $135 for the whole trip.
